For those who are into the whole brevity thing, here is the
MAIN POINT OF THIS POST:
Forget Me Knodt will be closed on Tuesdays between tomorrow, 7/30, and Tuesday, 8/13, but back at it again with normal shop hours on 8/20!
And now for the full back story…
Almost exactly four years ago, I went out on the first date to (literally!) end all first dates. I mean, it was GREAT! We went to a great restaurant, we had great conversation, The Violet Hour was still awesome back then and we had great after-dinner cocktails…we were really making it happen. And being hearts-on-our-sleeves types, both the gentleman in question and I kept calling attention to the fact that things were going really well.
Me: “I mean, JESUS. This is a GREAT first date!”
Him: “Right? It’s the best first date I’ve ever had!”
Me: “We are super good at being on a first date together!”
Him: “Possibly the best!”
Honesty was just being flung all over the place that night! We were in the trust tree – it was no-holds-barred type of stuff! So, after a brief discussion about our mutual passion for travel:
Me: “Oh man, we should go to INDIA together!!!”
Him, *crickets*…then: “Well, let’s not get ahead of ourselves…I mean, it’s only our first date.”
Ouch. But…we were in the trust tree?
Ha! Despite my overzealous travel invitation, my Best First Date Ever partner and I ended up together, and in fact got married almost one year ago, on August 11th.
And as I predicted back on that first date, travel has played a hugely important part in the shaping of our life together. In the four years since we met, we’ve partied through so much of this planet together.
A whirlwind Christmas trip through Europe (The Netherlands, Germany, Brussels and Ireland!), including a marriage proposal in Amsterdam!
We’ve really blanketed lots of this globe. I mean, there will ALWAYS be so much more to see, but we’ve done a good job so far, and don’t plan on stopping any time soon.
When I made the decision to quit the 9 to 5 and go into business for myself, though, there was some definite concern that our love of travel was going to go out the proverbial window for at least a few years. The hubs became particularly alarmed when I signed the lease on the storefront space. Would we ever be able to travel like we used to? I promised him yes, we would. Even if I ended up going the Hot Doug’s route and just closing up shop for a few weeks at a time, I wouldn’t let the business take that from us.
I’ve said it a thousand times: I, personally, have my feet planted firmly in the “work to live, not live to work” camp.
Now here we are, on the cusp of our first wedding anniversary, and the hubs is up to his old tricks again. He has planned an AMAZING trip for us, this time to Asia! He lived in Tokyo for a while before we met, and has always wanted me to experience it. So, we’re finally going to go! Osaka! Kyoto! Nara! Tokyo! Shanghai! Seoul! Sapporo! We are coming for you, and I can’t WAIT! I think I am going to see my husband in a whole new light after this…his time in Japan really had a large influence on who he is today.
And back to the MAIN POINT OF THIS POST: I don’t even have to close up shop – I have two fantastic Forget Me Knodtettes in Kim and Ammie, and they’ll be manning the shop while I’m away! We’ll be open Wednesdays – Saturdays for business as usual. Deliveries, walk-ins, all your floral and gift needs! One difference? The Instagram will shift from Uptown to the Far East for just a while, so I can share my travels through Asia with all of you.
Sayonara, Chicago! Here’s to life, love, travel, and going boldly in the direction of your dreams!
