Last July I flew back home to Northern California to design wedding flowers for a brilliant bride and her brilliant fiance – a professional illustrator who ended up designing my own save the dates and wedding invitations, and he couldn’t have nailed Maddie’s likeness any more perfectly!
They got married in Mill Valley, just north of San Francisco. I flew back there, and I was able to shop at the SF Flower Market (where my grandparents used to shop for their flower shop!) To make things even more amazing, I made all of their wedding arrangements alongside a glass (or a bottle?) of wine, outside on a deck up on Mt. Tamalpais in the redwood forest, overlooking the SF Bay. It was magical!
And the husband (fiance, at the time!) and I were even invited to be guests at the wedding!
I mentioned this bride is brilliant – she’s a Fulbright scholar who has spent the last year with her husband living and working on her thesis in Amsterdam. Now, it just so happens that I got engaged in Amsterdam the day after Christmas in 2012, and for that reason and many more, Amsterdam is one of my most favorite places on earth!
To bring it full circle, this bride just contacted me at my new flower shop, all the way from Amsterdam, to deliver flowers to someone she loves back here in Chicago! This business makes a big world so much smaller, and so much lovelier.
Just one of thousands of reasons I adore my job! Happy Thursday, everybody!
